Hunter New England Health (HNEH) confirmed to the Leader that the weekly testing, which started last year, would continue and there was no indication it would slow down any time soon.

The city has not recorded a new case of COVID-19 in more than a year, and there has been no whiff of virus particles detected in Tamworth's wastewater since testing began in August 2020.

HNEH confirmed COVID-19 fragments had been detected in sewage in the Hunter's Burwood Beach Wastewater Treatment Works, which is the catchment for Newcastle, Dudley, Charlestown, Jesmond, Mayfield and Carrington.

Anyone with flu symptoms should seek a COVID test in Tamworth by going to the Laverty drive-through at the Plain Street car park or booking into the Tamworth Respiratory Clinic.
