New England police said the man, aged in his 70s, was unaccounted for when flames took hold about 8am.
The single-level home was engulfed by the fierce flames within minutes, and there was little fire crews could do.
Firefighters worked to stop the fire from spreading, and extinguished the blaze before the body was discovered shortly after.
Police set up a crime scene at the home, with investigations continuing into the cause of the fire.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner.

Fire crews including Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers rushed to the scene, along with ambulance paramedics and local police.
"The deceased person was located inside the premises," New England Detective Inspector Roger Best told the Leader.
"The investigation is in its infancy, and the circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated.
"What I can say that is investigations are being hampered by structural damage at the scene, and at this point it's unsafe for investigators to get access to the site."
Investigations are continuing but a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
More to come.
