"The way we try and use the footy now, we have to be confident," he said.
Kelly said that style included "switching the ball across the other side of the ground" or "kick it short for someone and then run".
Last season the Swans made their first grand final since 2009, when they won their last premiership, and backed up their Crossroads Cup triumph last weekend with an impressive display against Inverell.
The only serious blemish on their afternoon was a poor third quarter, when the Saints booted seven majors to none to make a contest of it after trailling 12.6-78 to 1.4-10 at half-time.
Heading into the final term, the Swans led 12.11-83 to 8.8-56.
The side rediscovered their groove in the final quarter, kicking five answered majors.
"After half-time we sort of went to sleep a bit and lost our structure," Kelly said
"But at three-quarter time, I said to the boys: 'We've just gotta go back to playing how we won't to play ... and they responded really well. I was really happy with that."
Kelly said this charges were "starting to believe that how we train and how we play is the same".
"Things we're doing at training work well in the game," he added.
Kelly praised the performances of Michael Parker, Kaleb Crowhurst and Adam Cruickshank against Inverell.
