The causeway is completely washed out at Prices Road at Bective but on Thursday, Tamworth Regional Council said a sidetrack had been built, and completed, allowing motorists to pass.
Significant damage has been discovered under the causeway at Wallamore Road near Tangaratta Creek.
Council said the roadway will remain closed, with a permanent repair and major upgrade to begin in June.
"Please respect the road closed signs, as the causeway surface may give way under the weight of a vehicle," a spokesperson said on Thursday.

LOCAL roads remain closed after floodwater caused extensive damage.
The causeway is completely washed out at Prices Road at Bective and a sidetrack is being built which should be finished late this week.
Significant damage has been discovered under the causeway at Wallamore Road near Tangaratta Creek.
Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) has urged residents to respect the road closed signs as the causeway may give way under the weight of a vehicle.
The New England Highway will have changed traffic conditions this week as safety improvement works are carried out about 37 kilometres south of Tamworth.
The work includes heavy patching, centre-line widening, guard rail installation, drainage improvements and road resurfacing on a 4.8 kilometre section of the highway.

It's expected to be completed by July with work to be carried out from 6am to 6pm.
One lane of traffic will be closed during work hours with alternating flow arrangements, traffic control and a speed limit of 40km/h.
Motorists have been advised to drive to the conditions and follow directions.
