"I don't think we'll be as strong as last year," Swans coach Paul Kelly said.
"But we've got some good recruits. So hopefully we still should be reasonably competitive, or more than competitive."
With Gunnedah - undefeated and largely unchallenged in 2020 - losing a number of their Victorian imports, Kelly believes this season may be more open.
"I think it might have evened the competition up a bit, but you never know with Gunnedah," he said.
"I think we've got them first up [Saturday], Gunnedah, so we'll find out tomorrow how good they are."
Also in action on Saturday will be Moree and Narrabri.
