Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) has been approached by Winning Moves Australia, the company that owns the rights to Monopoly Australia, to create a game centred around the country music capital.
While no decision has been made by the council yet, mayor Col Murray said in the grand scheme of things he believes it would be a great way to promote the city.
"It potentially has the capacity from a tourism point of view to pique the interest of potential visitors," he said.
"There's lots of things we could do, we have lots of great natural attributes like Sheba Dam, the Manilla Town Hall, maybe the adventure playground - I think it would be a lot of fun pulling together places and identifying our natural and built assets."
The company wants to create a Tamworth Top Trumps Education Card set and Monopoly board game just in time for the Christmas trade and the 50th Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2022.

"I had to buy the Australiana edition and if we got a Tamworth one, I would get that too," she said.
"I think it would be super popular, people like to see something they recognise and relate to."
Councillors will vote on whether to sign the contract on Tuesday, which needs to be executed by April 16.
The city made it onto the Australian Here and Now edition of Monopoly in 2007.
