Uralla Taxi Service officially closed its doors on April 1 after no one came forward to buy the business.
Two taxis used to service the community under the ownership of Peter Hooper, but due to health reasons he was unable to continue operating the business.
Uralla shire mayor Michael Pearce said he was a "bit disappointed" there was a lack of customers using the service.
"Particularly for small towns, everybody needs a taxi service, we only have the one bus service to Armidale in the morning and it returns in the afternoon," Cr Pearce said.
"It would appear because nobody has taken up the services of our one and only taxi service, the business has been put up for sale."

He said there were other options like Tablelands Community Transport, but it was still sad.
"It is one of those dying trades in the bush," he told the Leader.
Uralla Business Chamber president Teresa French said a "big hole" would be left where the service once was.
"I know of a few people who were relying on it and what are they going to do now?" Ms French said.
"You get the elderly people getting them to come to the supermarket and to pick them up with their groceries and from the pub.
"I know they used to take someone to school everyday."
She said it would be especially difficult for those heading to the Armidale airport.
"It would be an issue with getting from the airport to home but they might just have to use the Armidale taxis, unless someone picks up the licence," she said.
