TAFE NSW is among the properties that will go without between 9:30am and 3:30pm, but Oxley High School and the hospital won't be impacted, a Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) spokesman said.
"These properties have been advised of the outage, other properties in the area may experience low pressure," he said.
"The outage will be kept to an absolute minimum and the patience and understanding of residents and businesses during this time is greatly appreciated."
As a result of the works, water could be discoloured or white and businesses and residents are encouraged to check water quality before doing laundry or preparing food.

If water quality issues are experienced, the council recommends running the tap for a few minutes.
"If water quality does not improve within this time, it should be reported to the site supervisor," the TRC spokesman said.
"Any water quality exception will have an aesthetic impact only and will continue to meet Drinking Water Quality Guidelines at all times."
Anyone with water issues should contact TRC.
