It will be built on an entirely different site to the current Marius Street location, but a decision on this is still to come.
NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard announced the news at the station on Tuesday morning, alongside local paramedics and Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson.

Mr Hazzard said it would cost about $6-10 million to build the new facility, and the government would "anticipate that the new ambulance station would be up and running in Tamworth inside two years".
"We'll be getting on with it as quickly as possible. The planning work is already under way and ... wherever the station is, it will have to work in consultation with the station in South Tamworth," he said.
"With a new station, comes new facilities. It is a case of modern times require modern facilities, so meeting rooms, places to rest, places to be able to get ambulances in and out without having to worry about the closeness of the roof and walls.
"As communities grow and Tamworth is one of those communities that is well and truly growing, we have to look at growing with more ambulances and more staff."
Mr Anderson said this was a "great win" for all.
"Not only for our paramedics who deserve the the very best facility but also for our community who when they call 000, they want to know that our paramedics are there to help them," he said.
"This building is well over 90 years old and its been a very strong campaign by local paramedics to upgrade this facility to build the very best that they deserve on a greenfield site."
