Despite all events now moving to the one person per two square metre rule, the planned ceremonies in town will remain at 1000 people for the dawn service and 600 people for the main service at the town hall.

Tamworth RSL sub-branch president Jayne McCarthy said this was because they still needed to contact trace.

"That is our defining factor on how we manage our events. [Eased restrictions] don't really make anything easier because crowd control is our biggest issue," she said.

"We've still got to put plans in place and have to go through the hoops.

"We're only a month out, we've just got to do it."

The decision to limit the services was a joint agreement between the branch and Tamworth Regional Council.

It was previously planned to have the 600-person event ticketed, but this has changed since the easing was announced by the state government.

"People can register as they come through the door and people are welcome to do that," Ms McCarthy said.

At the dawn service, organisers have "got a boundary worked out with lighting to assist the whole check in process".

"We still have to work on the one per two square metre rule, that's why we've got the boundary and the lighting to help with the QR-code check in," the sub-branch president said.

"People will check in on either end of Brisbane Street and in the park behind the gates near the band stand.

"That's why we had to set the limit so we knew we were responsible for 1000 people in this area for safety."

She understood some people weren't happy about the reduced capacity, but said she "would expect the public to do the right thing on such a significant day".

"The sub-branch understands that's not ideal, we do consider that we wanted more as much as anybody else," she told the Leader.

"At least it's something, at least it's the dawn service, the commemoration service, at least we're doing something.

"The onus is on the public to do the right thing."

Members of the branch will have sites set up around Tamworth's shopping centres in the lead up to April 25 to collect donations for the Anzac Appeal.
