Briggs was just a spectator then, watching on as her son Caleb Cameron immersed himself within the sport.

Then one day, Briggs decided to have a roll herself and was hooker herself.

"Sitting there watching and playing two total different things," she said.

"Now I'm playing I enjoy bowls a lot and the social aspect of it. Winning's not everything. I go and have a good time, have a beer and winning's a bonus for me."

Briggs got a big bonus at the Armidale City Bowling Club a fortnight ago where her Gunnedah team moved through to the President's Reserve Fours Final playoffs in Ettalong later this year.

Making the win all the more special was who she got to claim the win with - children Caleb, 18, and Ella, 12, and brother-in-law John Pryor.

"Bowls is the best sport for that - to be able to play with your kids no matter how old they are," Briggs said.

"It's an awesome feeling to play with them and reach that level."

The quartet joined forces for the first time this year and enjoyed immediate success at the Gunnedah and then Zone 3 playoffs.

It will be Briggs' first time going to the state fours finals but some other teammates have made it through to the president's reserve state finals before.

"Caleb went for the fours two years ago," Briggs said.

"He went with his dad [Craig] and uncle [Pryor] and [Peter Green] who we played a lot of bowls with."

This year, Briggs said the team would be playing in memory of Green.

"He [Green] passed away. It's going to be a big thing for sure and hopefully we can go a step further and win it for him," Briggs said.

She added: "He was very near and dear to us. We'll definitely be putting our all in for him."

Meanwhile, the Zone 3 pennants, which all four bowlers will take part in, season kicks off this weekend.
