Narrabri Shire Council has resolved to build a new "prefabricated" home on vacant council land near the Boggabri Multi-Purpose Centre to replace the current "outdated" residence.
It will be built using funds from the Maules Creek Coal Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA), and Narrabri shire mayor Ron Campbell anticipates the cost would be about $250,000-$275,000.

Cr Campbell said the council didn't have the "finer detail of who's going to [build] it" at this stage, but it "won't be too far away" and would "happen very quickly".
"The housing there at the moment is inadequate, it's too old, and needs a lot of repairs and is probably beyond that," he said.
"We'll act very quickly, whether it be for an existing doctor or doctors in the future, to have a place to live which is low maintenance. The current one has a large yard that's difficult for a busy doctor to maintain.
"We'll be doing the landscaping and through the whole process we'll have the funds to maintain the premises to a high standard in the future."
He said the residence would provide "a key role in maintaining and encouraging future doctor requirements for the community of Boggabri".
"We have reached the time to modernise the residence so it reflects the calibre of medical professional we seek to attract and retain in the Boggabri community," Cr Campbell said.
"There are a significant amount of projects and growth opportunities on the horizon for Boggabri. It is absolutely crucial we can attract and maintain quality health service professionals to our shire."
He said Boggabri was just as important as any other town.
"It might be called Narrabri shire but it's all about the other towns as well."
