Narrabri Shire Council confirmed the small number after applications closed on Friday, February 19. The DA was open for submissions from January 28.

A council spokesperson said it would now consider this submission's contents.

"Council will [then] ... refer the application to relevant government agencies for their comments prior to making a determination on the application," the spokesperson said.

The open camping area would be positioned in cleared areas of Peter Brien's neighbouring property, and would include two ablution blocks, each comprised of two pit toilets (one male, one female), and two camp kitchenettes.

There would be a maximum capacity of 120 people on the site, and bookings would be made online.

Mr Brien said he was eagerly waiting on the council's response for the next step, and if it was approved, would start construction "straight away".

"It's just going to add to the things people can do in and around Boggabri," he said.

"If they approve it, we'll be going full steam forward to make it happen."
