A BRUTAL attack has left a man hospitalised in a critical condition after he was allegedly hit in the face repeatedly by someone he knew.

A 40-year-old man accused of being behind the attack will face Dubbo Local Court on Friday, charged with grievous bodily harm.
Emergency services rushed to Hope Street in Walgett about 12:30am on Thursday when a 41-year-old man was found outside a home with serious injuries to his face and head.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to Walgett hospital and placed in an induced coma.
He was then flown to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Central North police have reportedly been told the man had been hit in the head repeatedly in the midst of a fight with another man.

A crime scene was established and officers launched an investigation into the man's injuries.
After investigations, police arrested a 40-year-old man at Walgett hospital about 2:10pm on Thursday.
The man, who police claim is known to the alleged victim, was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear at Dubbo Local Court on Friday.
