Locals had been vocal on social media platforms about water restrictions in the lead-up to the month-long survey, but only a trickle of official responses were recorded.

Tamworth Regional Council compiled a list of about 40 questions to ask residents their views on the drought management plan, as the city emerges from the big dry.

The compulsory 500 phone responses were clocked, but only 155 people chose to complete the online option.

Tamworth Regional Council declined to comment on any findings or issues raised until more information had been given by the company outsourced to run the survey.

After public commentary around the management of water in Tamworth during a drought which saw Tamworth residents on strict Level 5 restrictions and Chaffey Dam drop to just 12 per cent, council previously told the Leader it was important to hear what locals had to say.

"There is a difference between listening and agreeing, but at the end of the day we will listen to what everyone says and see what everyone says in the survey," Mr Logan told the Leader when the survey was launched last month.

"But if people don't say anything council can do whatever they want."

The survey was aimed at finding out what water users across the region thought about everything from restrictions to water security.

A fresh draft of the updated drought management plan is expected to be completed within 12 months, and will it go on public display.
