Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) has opened expressions of interest for the former Mechanics Institute on Brisbane Street, where Williamsburg director Luke Fielding opened the city's first gourmet burger bar in 2016.

Foodies should rest assured because the burger bar isn't going anywhere for at least another decade, Mr Fielding said.

"Williamsburg has a long lease in place and the sale of the building will not affect the business," he said.

"In regards to buying the building ourselves, we're not in a position to comment just yet.

"We pretty much renovated the entire building and gave it a new lease of life, it's an interesting situation.

"We have a 15-year lease and we're in our fifth year, we're here to stay."

The building is listed as a heritage item of local significance and the council's documents show only interested buyers with a view to conserve the heritage of the property will be considered.

Expressions of interest have been issued because the council wants to ensure "that the proposed use of the site is consistent with the council's vision for the development of the Tamworth region as a major and vibrant regional centre," the documents read.

Interested parties will have to detail the proposed use of the site, their experience in carrying out a business with references, details of their financial capacity to buy and carry out their proposed business.

They will also have to provide a formal offer for the property.

TRC declined to comment until expressions close on February 16.
