The 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old were allegedly found with stolen goods when they were intercepted by officers on patrol in the early hours of Saturday.
The goods were reported stolen from break and enters at homes in Napier Street and Rawson Avenue on Friday night.
Tamworth police had been deployed to East Tamworth about 12am on Saturday after reports thieves hit a Darling Street home.

Officers started searching the area and stopped four boys, aged between 14 and 17, who were walking south along Napier Street.
Police stopped and spoke with the teenagers, who were then searched.
They allegedly found a knife and suspected stolen goods in the searches, which were seized.
Officers then scoured the area and found mobile phones and three sets of keys, a spokesperson confirmed.
All four boys were arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station for questioning.
A 14-year-old boys was later charged with two counts of aggravated break, enter and steal home in company, and custody of a knife in a public place.
He was refused bail by police and appeared in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Tamworth Children's Court on Saturday, where he was granted conditional release by the court.
A 17-year-old boy is facing two charges of aggravated break, enter and steal dwelling in company.
He was granted bail by police to front court later this month.
It's the police case that the goods seized were stolen from break and enters on homes in Napier Street and Rawson Avenue earlier on Friday night.
Police have confirmed two other 14-year-old boys were questioned by officers but released without charge, pending further investigations.
Investigations into the Darling Street aggravated break-and-enter, as well as the other reported break-ins are continuing, police confirmed.
