Juan Augustus Sampson was excused from appearing at court on Monday, and has not been required to enter pleas to the charge of assault with intent to rob, armed with an offensive weapon.
Magistrate Julie Soars told police prosecutor Sergeant Rob Baillie and Aboriginal Legal Service lawyer Rachael Barwick a brief of evidence would need to be served by late-March.

Sampson's January 20 arrest came after an alleged armed robbery attempt outside a block of Tamworth units earlier this month.
Police claim a 17-year-old and his friend were walking along a footpath when a ute pulled up and two men got out.
One of the men allegedly grabbed hold of the teenager and threatened him, armed with a knife, demanding his bag.
The teenager and his friend were able to break free of the alleged attackers and run to a nearby apartment on Robert Street, where Oxley Police District officers were notified.
After an investigation, 18-year-old Sampson was arrested by police at a West Tamworth home, following a short foot pursuit.
Sampson can only leave his bail address at Oxley Vale in the company of specific people for the purposes of Centrelink, court appearances, medical or school appointments; and must present himself to the door if required to do so by NSW Police - among other bail conditions.
Ms Soars ordered Sampson to appear in person at Tamworth Local Court at the next occasion.
