Ella Fashion and Fresh A Peel are just two of these.
The first is located on Bourke Street, just next door to The Lollie Hut, and the second is smack bang in the middle of Peel Street, directly across from the Tamworth Regional Council building.
Women's fashion store Ella Fashion is owned by Amy Davis, a 22-year-old busy making her mark in the Tamworth business landscape.
She started her business three years ago, but only got the keys to her first proper shopfront this month.
"We were online initially, then we opened a pop-up shop in the Atrium about two years ago, and we were there for four months, then we opened a pop-up shop for a year in the Kmart centre, and now we're here," she said.
Her original plan was to create a size-inclusive brand, but this proved "really difficult".

Her store currently stocks women's sizes six to 16, but her dream is to create her own designs to be more inclusive.
She said it was intimidating sometimes being so young in the business world, but she gave budding business owners some helpful advice.
"Just go for it. You spend so much time thinking 'what if, what if it doesn't work, what if people don't like me' - just do it, it works," Miss Davis said.
"Everyone you meet at all these business things are all in their 30s and 40s and have years of experience, I was straight out of high school and I went 'I'll do it' and here I am."
Meanwhile, Darryl Lindquist is busy preparing his new business Fresh A Peel.
It will offer a variety of fresh salads, sandwiches and wraps, which will be made to order.
Mr Lindquist said his business was needed in town, especially for the everyday working person.
"A lot of people have got 15 minute [breaks], so you just try to work with the people that are working, the people that are coming off the street is a bonus," he said.
"I know there's a few other places that have similar stuff but it's already made in big mounds ready to go, and we're trying to create what you want to eat, we're not forcing you to eat what's there, it's whatever you want to eat."
He said there was going to be a variety of different items customers could enjoy.
"We're going to base [the salads] on Caesar salad, a Thai salad, and a Greek salad, and we're going to do fresh-grilled salmon, Angus beef, and grilled chicken breast so it's all healthy," Mr Lindquist told the Leader.
"In the salad bar, it's going to be fresh rocket, basil, coriander, mint, all just fresh herbs, so it's going to be not only healthy, but it'll taste good as well."
He already has five staff hired, and was originally opening the store on January 25, but a freighting issue has held this up.
The official opening is now planned for February 1.
