A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been airlifted to Tamworth hospital after an early morning accident at a mine near Narrabri.

An Ambulance NSW spokesperson told the Leader the man was working at Maules Creek Mine just before 4am on Thursday, when "heavy machinery" tipped over and hurt the man.
Paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter rushed to the scene, south of Narrabri, to assess and treat the 33-year-old.

Ambulance paramedics and the chopper's critical care team treated the man for suspected injuries to his back and hip, but the Ambulance NSW spokesperson said his injuries didn't appear serious.
The man was flown by the helicopter to Tamworth hospital for further treatment.
It is understood he was in a stable condition.
Maules Creek Mine is a coal mine between Narrabri and Gunnedah, and is owned by Whitehaven Coal.
