James Douglas Kessell fronted Moree Local Court the day after he was pulled over by police on the Kamilaroi Highway near Narrabri.
Kessell was charged with possession of an unauthorised firearm; possession of an unregistered firearm; possession of ammunition without a licence; acquiring a firearm subject to a prohibition order and acquiring ammunition subject to a prohibition order.
He pleaded guilty to all five charges and was formally refused bail by magistrate Roger Prowse on Wednesday.
He will return to court in Moree later this month for sentencing.

A GUN and more than 350 rounds of ammunition have been seized by police after a vehicle was stopped on the Kamilaroi Highway near Narrabri.
The 53-year-old driver was charged after Oxley Police District officers pulled his car over about 10:30am on Tuesday as part of proactive patrols.
Police allege the man returned a positive result to a roadside drug test before they began to search the vehicle which contained a firearm and more than 350 rounds of ammunition.
The man was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station where he was charged with possession of an unauthorised firearm; possession of an unregistered firearm; possession of ammunition without holding a licence and acquiring a firearm and ammunition subject to a prohibition order.

The driver was refused bail and is set to appear in Moree Local Court today.
