Officers from the Fixated Persons Investigation Unit moved in on the man at a Hillvue home about 7.30am on Tuesday, raiding the property.

The raid was triggered after an investigation into threats posted on social media in December were about two Australian MPs.

During Tuesday morning's raid, officers seized a number of electronic devices which they confirmed would be forensically examined as part of the investigation. Three of what they claim are cannabis plants were also seized.

Police are remaining tight-lipped on the location of the raid, along with some details of the investigation.

The 58-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Tamworth Police Station for questioning.

He has since been charged with using a carriage service to menace or harass or offend, and cultivating a prohibited plant.

The man was granted conditional bail by police and has been ordered to appear in Tamworth Local Court in February.

Police said the Fixated Persons Investigation Unit launched an investigation in December after comments about two parliamentary officials came under notice.

A spokesperson said the comments were believed to have been sent from NSW, and investigators later zeroed in on a Tamworth location, culminating in Tuesday's raid.

The Fixated Persons Investigations Unit was established in 2017 by NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller to focus on the detection, intervention, and prevention of so-called 'lone actor' and 'fixated person' threats and grievance-fuelled violence across the state.

Police said investigations are continuing.
