AN ELDERLY man has been airlifted to Tamworth hospital after he was trampled by a cow at a property on Tuesday morning.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) was called in to urgently treat and transport a 69-year-old man after an incident at a Salisbury Plains property, just before 10:30am on Tuesday.

NSW Ambulance paramedics and the chopper's critical care team rushed to the property, between Walcha and Uralla, following reports the man had been "trampled" by a cow, according to a spokesperson from the WRHS.
The 69-year-old man was treated for injuries to his head and back, which he suffered in the incident.
He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics and the critical care team, before being flown to Tamworth hospital for further treatment.
It is understood he was in a stable condition.
