POLICE believe a gang who broke into a South Tamworth home knew the man who lived at the property.

Officers said a group of five men forced their way into a Jill Street home at 5.15am on Saturday, where they confronted the occupants.
Police said the intruders assaulted a 25-year-old man, who then managed to flee the house with his four-year-old child.
The gang then turned on two other occupants, and assaulted them before leaving the scene.

Oxley police arrived at the scene shortly after and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police for clues.
The 25-year-old victim was taken to Tamworth hospital for treatment for minor injuries and has since been released, police confirmed.
The incident is being investigated, and officers are calling for witnesses, or anyone who might have seen the gang acting suspiciously before or after the home invasion on Saturday morning.
