Mick commenced his trade as an apprentice motor vehicle mechanic in May 1976 with Harry Pyne Motors in Tamworth when it was the original Toyota passenger vehicle dealership.
Mick successfully completed his apprenticeship in 1980. In 1983, Mick moved to Coutman's Garage to work with the commercial Toyota vehicles. In 1984, Clifton's Toyota acquired the Toyota Franchise for passenger and commercial vehicles.
Mick continued with them until Jim and Beverly Thompson purchased the Toyota dealership in March 1990 and changed the name to Tamworth City Toyota.
Following 28 years with the Thompson family, they sold the Toyota Franchise and Dealer Principal Tim Easey became Mick's fifth employer.
During Mick's career he became an accredited Master Technician with Toyota and was certified with Rolls Royce, Land Rover, Jaguar and Daihatsu.
Tim Easey said Mick has been a great asset to the Toyota brand.
Throughout Mick's career he has seen huge developments in vehicle technology and has passion for keeping his product skills current, mentoring many fellow Toyota employees in developing their knowledge and skills.
There are not many people who stay with the one business (through multiple owners) over 44 years.
"We thank Mick for his loyalty to the Toyota brand in Tamworth," he said.
In retirement, Mick and wife, Jenell, will be spending more time on their Hobby Farm in the back hills of Moonbi, with some travelling later and family time with their six grandchildren.
One of Mick's sons is a mechanic, and Mick's only Grandson loves anything that has wheels on it and loves cars - maybe he is another Mechanic in the making.
Mick was born in Manilla and has no plans to leave Tamworth as he loves the area and says it is a great place to live. Mick wishes Tamworth City Toyota and the staff all the best as the Toyota brand reputation continues to grow. He has always been proud to be associated with such a great business.
"We will miss Mick and his calm approach and knowledge, as will the staff that have worked with Mick over the years," Tim said.
The entire team wish Mick and Janell all the very best for their future retirement.
