The Tamworth local mixed it up with the world's best shooters at the Commonwealth and Olympic games before entering the world of sales.
Now, less than two years after entering the world of real estate, the McCulloch Agencies' agent has achieved his latest success, being named the second-best rural agent in the state by the industry body REINSW.

"It's been a whirlwind 18 months to say the least," Mr Barton told the Leader.
"I've always had a real interest in the real estate market, so it wasn't too difficult a changeover for me.
"The team at McCulloch has just been so supportive and I can't thank them all enough, especially Daniel and Karina McCulloch, who really took a punt on me at the beginning.
"In turn, I probably took a punt with them too when the business opened, at the time it was a bold new move but there is no doubt it has been successful for both parties so far."
Before entering the world of real estate, Mr Barton was an international-level shooter, a farm manager and Northern Australia area manager for Beretta Australia.
"I think bringing my experience of sales and marketing from different industries I've worked in has been a distinct advantage," he said.
"Being able to rely heavily on the experience of the team I have around me, and meshing the two together, has turned out really well so far."
The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown many challenges at real estate agents across the country, but Mr Barton believes "a bit of forward thinking" has helped him continue to succeed.
"I think doing the simultaneous auctions from Sydney to Tamworth has really been a highlight of my time with McCulloch," he said.
"No one has ever really done that before, where we auction rural properties in Sydney via a live stream in Tamworth.
"We're currently using the Forum 6 Cinemas to do that and we are currently averaging up to seven or eight auctions a day, which allows people to bid live wherever they are.
"It's quite unique and Daniel and myself developing that system has really changed how we sell rural properties."
