As ghouls, ghosts, witches and zombies creep onto the streets of Tamworth, Halloween fanatics Carline Lumley and Trent Harding have turned their home into Spookesville - ready for the usual 300 guests.

"We've seen a marked increase in the numbers in the last couple of years, we didn't always get 300 people so it's starting to pick up in popularity," Ms Lumley said.

"We've never had someone come to the door without a costume, some of the mum's and dad's get into the spirit as well.

"I don't think it matters whether it's Australian or American, it's about the kids - and when we first started it was just a bit of fun but we got a great response."

Preparations at the house start about a month out from Halloween, with bulk orders for treats and handmade props to decorate.

It's the fourth year the couple have taken part in the tradition and this year have moved from Carthage Street to 12A Levien Avenue.

This year it will look a little bit different, with COVID-19 marshalls to help families in and out of the yard safely.

"We get all ages, little kids, right through to teenagers, we've had parents contact us about kids with special needs to cater for them or bring them through earlier," Ms Lumley said.

"There's no specific theme but we try to make it as interactive as possible."

Tamworth True will also offer home delivery of some small treats for Halloween. Organiser Jody Ekert said families can sign up for a delivery or volunteer to be a driver on their website.

"It's just another way the town is showing that in 2020 we can connect in new ways and still be generous and have a bit of fun but mindful of the pandemic," she said.
