The case has been adjourned to mid-December and the man's bail was continued.
It's the first time the man's case been heard in court, after he was charged by police from the metropolitan crash investigation unit in Sydney in the days following the incident.
Police claim the man was behind the wheel of a four-wheel-drive that was towing a campervan when it collided with an oncoming sedan on the Thunderbolts Way near Nowendoc, an hour from Tamworth.
It's the police case that the 42-year-old was driving his family home from a holiday when he's alleged to have crossed to the wrong side of the road, causing the crash which ultimately killed a four-year-old girl and a 72-year-old woman.
The elderly woman was driving the oncoming sedan, and was the only occupant, but died at the scene.
The four-year-old girl was a backseat passenger in the four-wheel-drive and suffered critical injuries and couldn't be saved. She died en route to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
Police said a woman in her 30s and three other children, who were passengers inside the four-wheel-drive, were rushed to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
At the time of the accident, emergency services confirmed the woman and the two boys, as well as a young girl, suffered various injuries and were treated in hospital for fractures, abrasions and stomach injuries.
The driver was treated on scene for minor injuries before he was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
