A NSW Department of Education spokesperson said contractors were hard at work finishing the project.
"Some of the new facilities at Tamworth Public School have been handed over, and an official opening will take place soon, once all refurbishment works are finished," the spokesperson said.
"Once complete, the upgrade to the school will include seven new flexible learning spaces, a new hall, upgraded school facilities, three practical activities areas and the refurbishment of the former teacher's cottage (Block M) heritage building."
The Leader understands several factors have led to the project's delay, including injuries to two electrical workers at the site in July.
Despite the delays in the construction, the NSW Government recently announced a record $1.3 billion would be allocated to public schools across the state next year.
NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the funding would help schools to plan for 2021.
"I want to see this funding improve outcomes for our students," Ms Mitchell said.
"Schools have enhanced financial tools that allow them to build this money into their school plans so that students receive more of the benefit."
