The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) station at Tamworth airport officially recorded 5.8mm of rain overnight, though locals clocked various amounts in their gauges, after the storm brought patchy downpours.

Residents from across the region took to social media to share what they noticed at their homes.

One South Tamworth resident said small hailstones fell in the area earlier this morning, while a Tintinhull and a Bective local reported similar experiences.

An East Tamworth resident recorded 3.5mm of the wet stuff, and a similar amount was notched in Calala.

Essential Energy data shows there are no current power outages in Tamworth related to the thunderstorm.

The BoM forecast for Tamworth shows the rest of today is expected to be cloudy with a high chance of rain developing this afternoon, and the chance of another thunderstorm.

Gunnedah didn't miss out on the rain, with the BoM station at the airport notching 5.4mm to 9am this morning.

Quirindi and the head of the Peel River near Nundle each got 3.6mm of rain.

The storm arrived on the first day of October, and just two days after the BoM officially announced a La Nina weather pattern is in play.

The phenomenon typically increases the chance of above average rainfall across much of Australia during spring and early summer.

The end of the week will heat up for Tamworth, with maximum temperatures expected to soar into the high 20s.
