At Scully Park he scored two of the most important of his life as the Magpies pulled off a grand final upset to make it a premiership double for the Magpies.
Following on from third grade's success earlier in the day, the Magpies' second grade overturned a 14-3 half-time deficit to knock over minor premiers the Harbour Knights 28-19.
After what was a real arm wrestle in the first 20 minutes, Tamworth scored first points through the boot as Liam Allan.
But two quick tries to the Knights saw them take the momentum and the lead into half-time.
The Magpies got back into it with some nice play between half-back Charlie Kensey and Allan, a Magpies penalty closing the gap to one with 25 to play.
The Knights hit back a few minutes later to kick away again, but with the wind behind them in the second half Tamworth were able to find some good territory and with 17 minutes to go Williams had a try disallowed after being ruled to have been pushed into touch just metres from the line.
But they got the ball back and a couple of minutes later, Allen found Williams with a great long ball, and he dived over. Allan nailed the extras to cut the Knights' lead back to one.
One of the Magpies' strengths is the speed in their backs and with the game in the balance, Sam Buster burned the Knights defence outwide to put them ahead 23-19 with seven minutes to play.
The Knights had a chance to strike back but a timely intercept from 'super sub' Ben Coombes foiled their chance. Backing up from third grade, Coombes didn't have the legs to go the distance but got the Magpies into their half.
Allan then chipped out to the right for Williams. It just evaded him on that occasion but they got another crack from a scrum and Williams crossed for his second to seal what even Magpies skipper Rory Marshman conceded was a surprise victory.
In their two meetings, the Knights had beaten them convincingly.
