Since then Wests has backed the sub branch and doubled down on its efforts during the pandemic.
Tamworth RSL Sub Branch president Jayne McCarthy said Wests' support was invaluable.
"This funding is very welcome," Ms McCarthy said.
"It will mean we are able to things we have had to put on the back burner for a long time.
"It's been a tough year in many respects, so it is nice to know the support of Wests is always there."
The Covid-19 pandemic forced this year's Anzac Day commemorations to be cancelled and has restricted the sub branch from doing many of its normal fundraising activities, such as selling Anzac pins.
"At its core, everything we do is about veterans' welfare and that's exactly what this funding will go towards," Ms McCarthy said.
"Funding like this and what we get through fundraising, basically means we can keep the sub branch going.
"As long we can keep it going we can support veterans and Wests support us in so many ways.
"Whether it's asking for a meeting room, or something else, they are always happy to help and we are really grateful for their ongoing support."
Wests board member and Vietnam veteran Wally Franklin said his organisation was committed to supporting the community.
"We have always said that our main focus is the community," Mr Franklin said.
"That's why we continue to back the community, from the sub branch right through to the many sports clubs and leagues we sponsor as well.
"I don't think it's ever been more important do that than it is right now with this pandemic going on."
