Split Rock Dam is sitting at 4.92 per cent full, but even at that low level, the massive dam is holding 22,586ML - more than 9000 Olympic swimming pools' worth - of the precious resource.

The dam supplies water to Manilla and Barraba.

Water Minister Melinda Pavey said Split Rock Dam is full enough that the two towns on the outskirts of Tamworth should have water security.

"While Split Rock storage remains low and offers limited resilience if conditions again turn very dry, critical requirements for Manilla and Barraba townships are now secure for the next 24 months, based on assumed minimum future inflows to the dam," she said in a statement on Wednesday.

Chaffey Dam's capacity has risen again in this week's Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) update.

The supply is now sitting at 25.88 per cent full.

Tamworth, Kootingal and Moonbi are on Level 4 water restrictions, and will be until the dam climbs to 30 per cent full.

The only water being released from Chaffey Dam - which is usually Tamworth's main water supply - is 3ML per day for the environment.

Tamworth's water is being sourced from the Peel River, while flows allow.

According to the TRC update, Dungowan Dam is 95 per cent full.

Tamworth water users have smashed the Level 4 consumption target of 18.5ML per day this week, using an average of 16.1ML per day.
