On Tuesday, Tamworth Regional Council councillors nominated Phil Betts, Russell Webb, Juanita Wilson, Helen Tickle, mayor Col Murray and Jim Maxwell to attend the conference in November.
Cr Wilson said she would like to see the council take full advantage of the opportunity.
"Water is critical for us and it's critical for our future, what better place to hold this conference at this time in our history than Tamworth," she said.
"I'm sure the media will be there to record events that are critical to where we're going."
The impact on the drought and ways to reduce it feature in a number of the presentations.
The theme of the conference this year is 'planning and building a resilient water future for NSW' and the goal is to connect professionals across the water industry.

"NSW is facing unprecedented challenges for vital water resources that sustain our communities in regional and urban areas," the AWA conference website reads.
"Issues such as the impact of the drought on regional communities and the environment, workforce resilience and asset management are some of the key topics that will be featured in this conference."
Presenter Nathaniel Selladurai will give a talk on Tamworth's "water lifeline" delivered in record time by WaterNSW.
The conference will be held in Tamworth from November 12 to 13.
