After years of drought, several clubs are gearing up to once again host regular fishing competitions and outings.
Lake Keepit Family Fishing Club's Anne Michie said it was the best start to a fishing season in many years.

"Hopefully it should be coming into some good fishing with all the rain and everything we've had lately," Ms Michie told the Leader.
"Our club is actually getting together for a fishing day at Lake Keepit on Saturday and I am really looking forward to seeing how the fishing goes.
"It's been a tough couple of years but the conditions we have at the moment are some of the best we've seen in a long time."
"We tend to stay away from the rivers during the off-season for Murray Cod because they tend to be so hungry and go after anything, including bait," Ms Michie said.
"That's why we will be sticking to the dam this weekend, to allow the fish to do what they need to do to create more fish.
"Our motto is, give them a rest when they are on the nest."
Ms Michie said the recent rain had also had some draw backs for the lake's recreational users.
"I had heard that some of the weeds and things like that had become a bit of a problem, especially for boat users," she said.
"However, I don't think it will be too big a worry for fishers and I think most people will just be happy to be out there and have some water to play with."
Also a member of The Pub's social fishing club, Ms Michie said the group was planning its annual trip to the coast to make the most of the good conditions.
"We'll be heading away over the October long-weekend and chasing after saltwater fish means we will also be leaving the cod alone," she said.
"I think that trip will be really exciting and given the fact Lake Keepit is at around 25 per cent capacity, it should be exciting fishing there too.
"It's been a bit of a tough couple of years for local fishing clubs with dams and rivers being so dry, but it is shaping up to be a cracker season."
