Dylan Murphy and his sister Bridget, who grew up in Mungindi, launched a GoFundMe page last night in an effort to support their close-knit community as it comes to terms with the devastating loss of its supermarket, butcher shop and clothing store, following a fire on Tuesday night.

"An unthinkable tragedy has struck our little town and we are reaching out for any help that we are able to get to rebuild," Mr Murphy wrote on the GoFundMe page.

"The local Spar grocery store, Red's butcher shop and a clothing store were completely destroyed. These stores are the lifeblood of the little town and their destruction will impact the entire town and those around it."

Mr Murphy still has a lot of family in Mungindi, including his parents who live just a few blocks from the shops that were destroyed by the blaze.

The clothing store, PJ's Country Wares, is run by his cousin, while Red's Quality Meats and Spar Supermarket are owned by close family friends.

"[Mungindi] is a big family," he said.

"It's devastating what has happened."

With Mungindi part of the Queensland border bubble - one side of the town is in NSW and the other in Queensland - the loss of these stores will make life even more difficult for locals who will now need to leave the bubble to access essential supplies.

"If they come to Moree to shop, they would have to isolate for two weeks if they have to cross the Queensland border to access medical services," Mr Murphy said.

"It's not good."

Mr Murphy is hoping to raise enough money to put towards a community fund to help residents buy groceries or a rebuilding plan to replace the three shops that were destroyed.

"These are the most integral services we can have in town, so I hope a rebuild is imminent," he said.

More than $600 has already been raised since the fundraiser was set up overnight, and Mr Murphy said any dollar amount that people can donate will make a huge difference.
