Kasey Brian Hilderson made an application for a temporary release, after he lodged a severity appeal against the jail sentence handed to him in Narrabri Local Court last week.
He was convicted on seven fraud-related charges, accused of ripping off a netball association of close to $80,000.
The 29-year-old was jailed for an aggregate term of 15 months, with a minimum of eight months behind bars on five charges of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception; one count of making a false document to obtain a financial advantage; and using a false document to obtain a financial advantage.

The Narrabri man is well-known in netball circles across the North West, and further afield across the state, but it was the police case that the 29-year-old, while an elected official of the men's club, transferred funds into his personal account.
Hilderson lodged a bail application to be released ahead of his severity appeal but magistrate Peter Thompson refused to release him, ordering him to stay in custody.
He adjourned the appeal which will be heard in the Moree District Court in mid-September
Hilderson was accused of withdrawing cash, and making purchases at several businesses before his offending was exposed by police earlier this year.
Detectives claimed Hilderson defrauded the association of more than $83,000 between November 2018 and August 2019, when police were alerted and starting looking into the claims.
He was first arrested in March after a seven-month investigation by Oxley detectives, and spent one night in custody before he was released on bail and later went to rehabilitation.
He admitted to the charges in June.
