The Tamworth Growers' Market has been given the go-ahead to return to Bicentennial Park next Saturday, August 29.

The markets were cancelled back in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tamworth producer Joe Madirazza said he's looking forward to heading back to the weekend markets and catching up with his regular customers and other stallholders.

"I love the interaction of the grower to the consumer, that gives you a real buzz," he said.

"It's a good, friendly atmosphere and we've become very good friends with some of our customers."

Mr Madirazza has been taking his fresh produce to the Tamworth Growers' Market for years.

"It's good for the community spirit to be able to do primary production and sell it around Tamworth," he said.

The local grower said rainfall this year has made the season much better than last year.

Tamworth Growers' Market co-ordinator Sam Brodie said not only will the markets be back, they'll be better than ever.

"We have a plan to diversify the market and include community groups as well, so we're hoping to do things like workshops for people to come and learn how to create and grow their own produce," she said. "We viewed COVID as a time to sit back and review what we've done and take community feedback on board."

Ms Brodie is looking forward to Saturday, and believes Tamworth locals will support the stalls.

"I certainly think now more than ever, people want to buy local and they want to know where their food comes from and where it's produced and what's on their plate," she said.

And it's not just customers they're keen for - anyone who produces handmade or organic products is encouraged to sign up for a stall.

Tamworth Growers' Market will be back on Saturday mornings from August 29, between 8am and 12:30pm, featuring handmade, organic and locally produced goodies.
