Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the upgrade had been on his agenda for some time.
"The upgrades will allow for heavier vehicles, including B-doubles to travel along Garoo Road so local livestock and produce can be moved more efficiently saving travel time to their destination," Mr Anderson said.
"Part of this project includes improvements to the Middlebrook Bridge on Lindsays Gap Road providing a safer route heading to the New England Highway from Nundle.
"NSW Government committed $2.7 million with a co-contribution of $300,000 from Tamworth Regional Council.
"Works were carried out by Tamworth Regional Council using local staff and suppliers."
NSW Roads Minister Paul Toole said the works were part of the state government's Fixing Country Roads program.
"Projects like this are also delivering important benefits for all regional road users, from passengers to producers, and from heavy truck drivers to the local school bus, who all share our local and regional roads," Mr Toole said.
Tamworth deputy mayor Phil Betts said the upgrade was "another example of how council is helping provide a safe and efficient network of roads in the Tamworth region."
