A NRL spokesman said "the NRL is exploring the possibility of the Warriors playing a match in Tamworth this season".
"The NRL and the Warriors are very thankful to the community for accommodating the Warriors during the COVID-19 pandemic," the spokesman said.
Wests League Club chief executive officer Rod Laing said plans for the proposed game were moving "full-steam ahead".
"We did have some NRL officials visit us on Thursday and I expect an announcement to be made about the game in the coming days," Mr Laing said.
"It could be early next week, but from what I understand, the Deputy Premier has really been driving this and will be the one to announce it very soon."
The Leader contacted the Deputy Premier's office who defered all questions to the NRL.
