The city was approached by Hunter H20 to be co-principal partner of the summit, and this week Tamworth Regional Council [TRC] councillors voted to take it on at a $5000 cost.
At least 150 delegates are expected to come to the two-day conference and the impact of the drought on Tamworth and ways to reduce that impact feature in a number of the presentations.
The theme of the conference this year is 'planning and building a resilient water future for NSW' and the goal is to connect professionals across the water industry.
"NSW is facing unprecedented challenges for vital water resources that sustain our communities in regional and urban areas," the AWA conference website reads.
"Issues such as the impact of the drought on regional communities and the environment, workforce resilience and asset management are some of the key topics that will be featured in this conference."
Presenter Nathaniel Selladurai will give a talk on Tamworth's "water lifeline" delivered in record time by WaterNSW.
The new 18 kilometre pipeline connects Tamworth to Chaffey Dam directly and was completed in under a year.
The pipeline is expected to extend the town's dwindling water supply by another 12 months.
The goal of the pipeline is to reduce transmission losses from water that would have once flowed down the Peel River to the Calala Water Treatment Plant.
This week it was revealed environmental flows from Chaffey Dam would continue and the pipeline has been switched off.

Recent rainfall has seen water levels at the dam rise to 22.1 per cent.
Under state government conditions for the Chaffey to Dungowan pipeline, environmental flows are triggered when the dam reaches 20 per cent.
The AWA is the country's biggest water network that strives for a sustainable water future. In recent years the conference has made the move from predominantly being held in Sydney to regional NSW.
It was first held in Newcastle in 2018, then Orange and now will be held at West Leagues Tamworth in November.
