The Ridgewell brothers pitched in to lead Cougars to two wins in their Tamworth Baseball A grade competition double header on Saturday.
Ben was named their man of the match for his pitching performance in their first-up 9-3 win over Warriors. Older brother Brock was then awarded the man of the match honours for the second week in a row as they beat the UNE Armidale Outlaws 7-2.
In both games Cougars set the tone early establishing a good lead in the first innings.
Against Warriors they jumped out to a 3-nil lead. In wet and somewhat difficult conditions at times, they built on that over the game adding another two runs in the second innings, one in the fifth and three in sixth.
Richard Bullock was led the way with the bat with three hits including a double and two singles. Landan Price and Brock Ridgewell each had two hits and Scott Hurn and Adam McGuirk one
On the mound, Ben Ridgewell was outstanding throwing 55 strikes from his 83 pitches.
As they did in the first game, Cougars started on fire against the Outlaws hitting their way to a 5-1 lead in the first innings. They extended that to 6-1 in the second innings and 7-2 in the fourth before time was called midway through the fifth innings.
In a game where they were given eight walks and Hurn hit by pitches twice, Ben Ridgewell secured two safe hits and Josh Daley and Aaron Carter both one apiece.
Taking over the pitching duties from his younger brother, Brock made it tough going for the Outlaws batsmen. Following on from his efforts the previous week where he had 41 strikes from his 66 pitches, he threw 50 strikes in his 74 pitches.
