Highway patrol officers stopped a black Ford Typhoon on the Newell Highway at Gurley, between Narrabri and Moree, about 3.15pm.
Officers said the driver was subject to a random breath test, and passed.
But after speaking with him, officers then searched the car and uncovered what they allege is 1.4kg of cannabis, as well as cash and other drug paraphernalia.

The 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Moree police station tfor questioning.
He was later charged with supplying a prohibited drug; possessing a prohibited drug; and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
The man was granted conditional bail by police and has been ordered to front Moree Local Court in mid-august.
