The pair forced their way in through the front door of the Pryor Street home about 8.30am.
Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy told the Leader the occupants were home at the time.
"The occupants of the premises disturbed the offenders who then fled the scene," he said.

The offenders fled empty-handed, and on foot. Police believe the intruders targeted the home, but are appealing for witnesses in the area.
"Police believe the offenders were known to the victims," Detective Darcy said.
"Quirindi police were in attendance, and detectives and crime scene officers also attended the scene.
"As part of the investigation, police are seeking assistance from anyone in the Pryor Street area who may have seen or heard anything about that time on Sunday morning.
"We need those people to come forward."
Police said the aggravated break-in was unrelated to a separate home invasion in the town last week.
