Liverpool Plains mayor Andrew Hope said the project had been on the council's radar for a long time.
"It's the second part of the redevelopment of the main street and it's been a long time coming," Cr Hope told the Leader.
"It's also great to see the help we got from the state government to deliver it and what was also pleasing was to see some local contractors get some work out of it as well."
Cr Hope said the project would play an important role in attracting tourists to Werris Creek.
"When you drive through a town anywhere and the town looks nice, people will want to pull up and stop.
"That in turn helps local businesses and has a flow-on effect for the local economy.
"On top of that, the fact some of the new tiles call back to the town's railway history will also help attract tourists.
"The railway heritage here is significant, we have a fantastic railway museum run by fantastic volunteers and hopefully they can also benefit from this project."
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the "must-do project" would benefit the Werris Creek community for years to come.
"This has been a fantastic project for Werris Creek and the upgrade now provides a stable, level surface for the locals to move along and helps provide local opportunities for work," Mr Anderson said.
"This is another fantastic example of how we can help provide a great place for Werris Creek locals to live, to attract visitors who support our businesses who keep our economies going.
"I can't wait to see more of this kind of work for Werris Creek and the surrounding area."
