Tamworth Regional Council councillors have another year in office and the majority are fairly certain they will be back for another crack when the next elections roll around.
Mayor Col Murray was unavailable for comment but has previously announced his plans to retire after his ninth term, leaving the top job open for a fresh face.
And, deputy mayor Phil Betts hasn't ruled out standing for a promotion in the 2021 race.
"I feel I have something to contribute and I will be putting my hat in the ring in the council elections," he said.

"I think I can contribute in the deputy mayoral role and it's a privilege to work with councillors and fellow community members.
"I wouldn't rule mayor out."
Councillor Mark Rodda plans to contest, perhaps for the deputy mayoral role, and said he hopes to see some new competition in the mix.
"I would encourage as many civic-minded community-focused people to seriously consider it because it gives them a year and three months to raise their profiles and sort out their policy platforms," he said.
It was a smart decision to delay elections for continuity in the fall out of COVID-19, Cr Juanita Wilson said.
"Personally I think as a council we are very cohesive and there are a few projects I would like to see through, including the water debate, the university, the flying college, cultural precinct and I'll assess again next year before the elections."

It was a similar story for Cr Helen Tickle, who said she would give strong consideration to standing next year and looks forward to the next 12 months.
Manilla resident Cr Jim Maxwell plans to stand again on his usual platform, to voice the concerns of outlying towns and villages. Cr Charles Impy also plans to stand again, and commended the council on how it handled the coronavirus crisis.
Cr Glenn Inglis said the elections landed on his wedding anniversary so he would need to consult his senior partner Robyn, and Cr Russell Webb was unavailable for comment.
