A MAN has been granted bail after police allegedly uncovered $5000 worth of cocaine in his car.
The 23-year-old was intercepted by specialist detectives from the state's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad on the Gwydir Highway at Warialda on Thursday afternoon.
Officers spotted the Holden Commodore speeding east on the highway and called for backup.
New England police helped to stop the car at the intersection of Inverell Street and Dumboy Street at Delungra about 3pm.
The driver passed a roadside breath test before police started searching the car.
Inside they uncovered several resealable bags containing what they claim is cocaine with an estimated street value of $5000.
The drugs were seized along with cash, a phone and weight scales consistent with drug supply, police claim.
Police will allege the man returned a positive indication for cocaine in a roadside drug test.
He was arrested and taken to Inverell police station where he was questioned by police.
The 23-year-old is facing charges of speeding; self-administer a prohibited drug; possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs; supplying prohibited drugs; and dealing with property that is suspected to be the proceeds of crime.
He was granted conditional bail to front Inverell Local Court in July.
