Fire and Rescue NSW crews from East Tamworth rushed to the housefire at Gidley, on the edge of the city, just after 4am.
On scene they were backed by the RFS crews from Attunga and Moore Creek who were also alerted to the emergency.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the fireplace and minimised the damage to the house.

Crews used a thermal imaging camera to identify the intense heat within in the walls around the chimney and removed the walls to extinguish it.
No one was injured in the blaze but it is the third fireplace fire in three days for the same crew, and the area has now seen at least five similar emergencies since last week.
"We've had 5 of these in the last week," a spokesperson for the region's Fire and Rescue Command said.
"If you haven't had your chimney or glue checked out yet now is the time to act.
"Don't be complacent with your home fire safety."
Firefighters in West Tamworth were also called out late on Wednesday to Westdale.
A suspicious car fire erupted about 10pm but was quickly extinguished. The car was destroyed and anyone with information is urged to contact Tamworth police on 6768 2999.
