At an extraordinary council meeting on Tuesday night, the council considered a confidential report to self-report the breach in the hopes it could expedite a resolution, due to the negative impact on the water supply for Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal.
The wells provide 10ML of water each day for Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal which saves the water being sourced from the dwindling supply at Chaffey or Dungowan Dams.

The council has held previous discussions with the NSW Minister for Water and staff from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment about the possibility it had exceeded extraction limits at the drift wells this year.
Now, NRAR will consider what, if any, action to take against the council.
More to come.
