A WOMAN has been killed in a crash involving a car and a garbage truck near Tenterfield.

The crash happened just before 5pm on Thursday, about 8km out of town.
New England police said a 59-year-old woman died at the scene in the collision at the intersection of Mt Lindsey Road and Old Ballandean Road.
Police were alerted and rushed to the area where a crime scene was set-up, and the road closed.

It's understood the woman was a passenger in a Ford Laser sedan being driven by a family member.
The driver of the car, a 22-year-old, was taken to Tenterfield hospital in a stable condition and also underwent mandatory testing.
The truck driver, a 41-year-old woman, was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing, police said.
Crash investigators have taken charge of the police probe and investigations are continuing on Friday. No charges have been laid.
Anyone with information on the incident or with dashcam in the area at the time is urged to contact local police.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
